JAMES: A Faith That Works
The letter of James was written to a group of Christians who were facing trials and persecution. Under the threat of this persecution they were tempted to compromise their Christian commitment and relapse into an accommodation to the life of the world. James speaks in the letter as a pastor to his friends and those who are under his spiritual care facing persecution and urged them to develop spiritual stamina. James also confronts them with how they conduct themselves in their lives dealing with a variety of issues that have always confronted Christians, as well as, the need for wisdom and insight. James teaches us that when we deal with trials, oppression and even doubt the gospel can draw us back to having joy in the midst of our circumstances. The foundation of the book is the importance of faith; faith or the lack of faith has a direct effect on what you believe and how you act.
