DISCIPLE: Being One, Making One
January 12, 2020 - February 23, 2020
A Disciple is one who is characterized by having their lives characterized by the philosophy, teaching, lifestyle and commitments of a Teacher or Ideology. In this sense we all are disciples of something or someone.Throughout the Bible the city of Babylon has represented a culture pursuing purposes opposed to God. The world consumed with feeding its own pride, promoting its own prestige, gaining power and control over against God's sovereignty, and a willingness to pursue pleasure in abusive and debase ways without any regard for human thriving. It our present age this is reflected by a Digital Babylon that engages us through the black mirrors of our phones, computers, TV's and tablets. In the face of this God has sent Jesus into the world to promote what leads to goodness, justice, beauty and human thriving. Jesus's call to discipleship is as relevant today as it was when he called his first disciples. We will be looking at what it means to be a disciple of Jesus and how we can help others to join us as we pursue what promotes beauty, goodness and flourishing.
