Jonah
God spoke to Jonah his prophet and called him to go to the great city of Nineveh and present a simple message: Repent or you will die. Jonah refused. He despised the people of Nineveh and ran from the Lord. He didn’t want the enemies of Israel to experience God’s mercy. He hightailed it to Joppa and caught a boat going in the opposite direction, and there begins the true story of Jonah and the Big Fish.
Our 4-week series tells of Jonah’s calling, disobedience and repentance. It tells of God’s passionate pursuit, how He speaks through pain and suffering, and the always-present hope for restoration.
God called Jonah to be a messenger, to bring the good news of a Holy Loving God to seek and save the arrogant, to go to the idol worshipping, to the wrong living, to the enemies of God and His people to tell them the message of salvation which comes through trust in a faithful redeeming God.
If I am a Christian then I am called to be a messenger, to bring the good news of a Holy Loving God to seek and save the arrogant, to go to the idol worshipping, to the wrong living, to the enemies of God and His people to tell them the message of salvation which comes through trust in a faithful redeeming God.
The Book of Jonah asks us to ask ourselves:
Do I love what God loves?
Do I do what God asks me to do?
